The ancient Maya city of Tikal, located in the Peten department of Guatemala, was once the most mighty state of the Classic Period of Maya history. The evidense of Tikal's former glory can be viewed towering over the dense jungle canopy, still echoing the power of the once great kings who ruled from their lofty thrones. In order to get on top of the world and survey the Maya lord's remarkable achievements you must scale the highest temples above the canopy. The tallest and most massive of the temples is Temple IV, which offers the best view of the surrounding ruins.
