How many cities in the world have a tropical forest right inside their boundaries? Tijuca National Park, at the base of the 844-meter (2,769-foot) flat granite monolith Pedra da Gávea, is a dense Atlantic rain forest that has been reclaimed from old coffee farms. Hiking trails and refreshing waterfalls add to the park’s attractions. Less active visitors can drive through the park, stopping at overlooks that take in spectacular views all the way down to Copacabana and Ipanema.
