I’m not sure exactly how to express in words our Swain Destinations experience at the Tigibi village spirit dance on the Makara River. During this spectacular ceremonial performance, local tribal elders engaged in song and dance dressed in rattan skirts, colorful clay paint, and massive headdresses made of human hair, bird of paradise feathers, grass and flowers. The men carried a haunting beat on their drums as they danced and sang, seemingly unaware of our group’s presence.
