For more than twenty years, vendors peddling antiques and collectibles have set up shop along Guadalajara’s Avenida Mexico every Sunday morning as part of the Tianguis Trocadero De Antiguedades. If you have a good eye, you’re sure to spot some gems among the junk, from furniture and china to books, jewelry, and other memorabilia. Haggling over prices is commonplace.

Shop Savvy at the Sunday Antique Market

Step back in time at Guadalajara’s Antique Market, where velvet-covered armchairs, crystal chandeliers, and finely detailed bronze statues inspire visions of elegant Mexican haciendas. The Sunday market—open from 9am to 5pm—spills down the block at the corner of Avenida México and Chapultepec Norte. Come wander through tables laden with painted pottery, Mexican silver, religious artifacts, hand-blown glass, and well-loved furniture, and make sure you are prepared to dicker because the locals are masters at the art of negotiation. You can bring home a piece of Mexican history at an old-fashioned price if you don’t act too interested and are willing to walk away. But don’t walk far, because someone else might snatch up the deal behind you. The market is popular, and savvy shoppers come early because by 10am the best treasures are gone.
