Remarkably relaxed, the female cheetah lifted her head from the grass as our game vehicle drew near. Five cubs were playing king of the termite hill, pouncing upon each other. Our morning game drive from Tangala Lodge in the Thornybush Game Reserve had provided outstanding game viewing, but even the guides admitted that this was a special encounter.
Making the change from their baby coats to the adult spotted coat made them look remarkably like honey badgers without the attitude! While there is great wildlife viewing in nearby Kruger National Park, it is worth checking out the private game parks such as Thornybush as well. Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalo, Black Rhino and White Rhino can all be reliably seen, but as with any wild animal encounter, nothing is guaranteed, but everything is possible.
Such as watching cheetah cubs tumbling down termite hills as their mother keeps a serene eye on the proceedings.
