Théo Brandão Museum
Facing the waterfront in an eclectic old mansion with a cupola, the Théo Brandão Museum is devoted to the anthropology and folk art of Brazil’s northeast; it also serves as a cultural center. Maceió's Historical and Geographical Institute, which started in 1869, is nearby in an enormous 1916 neoclassical pink structure. Its museum displays an interesting array of indigenous artifacts. The building is also used for music recitals.
