The hotels housing this popular Fort Lauderdale mermaid attraction have come and gone, but The Wreck Bar has remained. We guess that means sirens have staying power. Built to resemble a sunken Spanish galleon, this kitsch bar inside the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale Hotel has two nightly mermaid shows that have been popular for decades. And while the underwater performances take place in a pool, you watch through windows and portholes from inside the bar, where the Caribbean-inspired cocktails flow. The early evening mermaid show is family-friendly, while the later one takes on a Burlesque theme wherein a few mermaid garments are shed.

Ever see a mermaid? Me, neither. At least, not until I visited The Wreck Bar in Ft. Lauderdale last week. The magical mermaids return from their sea adventures every Friday, and always promise to put on quite the show. Just make sure you get there a good thirty minutes before the show starts, or else you’ll be swimming as you look for a place to sit/stand/marvel.
