Overnight in a teapot, drink Guizhou's best tea, explore tea culture
If you like tea, especially green tea, Meitan is a must. "Seas" of tea spread out in every direction. The city's major tea manufacturer built the world's largest teapot several years ago to attract tourists. The amazing thing? It's also a hotel! You can stay in a teapot. I think this is something worth a notch in one's "unique travel experiences" belt.
In the fall of 2012 I went with a Chinese family to Meitan. Out of luck, I happened to befriend the son of one of the tea company's executives, so we got the gold-star tour, but you can easily tour the city on your own.
Stay in the teapot hotel, do a tea tasting, drink some tea on the patio that overlooks downtown, explore the local tea manufacturers to see how it's done, then take a drive through the tea "sea." You should also try the local specialty ludou fen (green bean noodles)--delicious and hearty.
The city is undergoing a massive reconstruction for Chinese tourism. Get here soon to see the city in a less developed, more peaceful state!
[Again, the map/location feature here doesn't allow me to pinpoint the exact location, but if you make it to Meitan, which with the new expressway is now only 45 minutes east of Zunyi, you can't miss it!]
