The Twelve Apostles

Great Ocean Rd, Princetown VIC 3269, Australia

Surely when you are driving down The Great Ocean Road be it form Melbourne or Adelaide, you will be stopping at The 12 Apostles. Through there are no longer 12 of the epic rock stacks, the view is incredible. But, I cannot recommend more timing your visit with sunset. In this way, you can see the stacks in all of their daytime glory, and catch their brilliant tones of golden yellow as the sun sets. It is brilliant to see the shadows that are cast into the water amongst dancing colors and hues in the changing tides. The ending to a perfect day on The Great Ocean Road.

A Primordial Visit

There is something primitive about seeing Twelve apostles - like earth trying to come out of ocean. It feels like traveling in time. This time, I also took a short helicopter ride above them and it was astounding.

The Great Ocean Road - Victoria, Australia

There is no question that our Great Ocean Road trip was was of the most memorable experiences during our time in Victoria. You can explore the Great Ocean Road as a day trip or take your time and stay over night in a town along the way. But note that the road is one of Australia‘s biggest attractions and for good reason. We did some research and decided we wanted to do a small tour (versus a large tour bus or renting a car on our own). In the end we felt unbelievably lucky to have been referred to Chris at Wild Wombat Escapes. (http://www.wildwombatescapes.com/) He caps his tours at 10 people and brings a level of enthusiasm that I have never come across in a tour guide. He absolutely loves Australia, nature, the environment, and he is full of historical tidbits about the region. We saw every major site including a rain forest, lighthouse, beaches, and geological marvels. Chris also has a keen eye for wildlife and was quick to spot opportunities to see kangaroos, kuala bears, parrots, and other colorful birds. My favorite thing about Chris was how he would play DJ and made sure we had the perfect soundtrack for this epic road trip! He also made us an hearty and healthy lunch and offers “all you can eat biscuits”. Chris’ tour starts super early but he kept his promise of keeping our small group in front of the larger tours. We had almost every attraction to ourselves including the vista at the Twelve Apostles (pictured above).
