How good is the brunch at the Thomas in downtown Napa? So good that sometimes I wake up on a Sunday morning thinking about their banana and nutella-stuffed French toast or the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado...with an egg on top, of course) and will drive from San Francisco just to satisfy my craving. Formerly known as Fagiani’s, the restaurant was taken over by NYC chef Brad Farmerie and the amazing design can be credited to the brilliant team at Avroko. It would be sinful to leave brunch without ordering one of the excellent Bloody Mary’s. In the warmer months, ask to be seated on the roof and enjoy the views of the Napa River.

Lat Night at Fagiani's

When the lights go out in the city, the bright red florescent sign of Fagiani’s keeps on glowing. Open until 1 am on the weekends, the downstairs bar includes the original rail and (refurbished) bar stools from the 1800’s as well as some of the original decor (most notably, the taxidermy). Upstairs, the roof bar, added to the historic building by its current inhabitants, the NY-based group AvroKo, offers amazing views of the river and the tiny, but increasingly happening town. They serve a limited bar menu (burgers, BLATs) until midnight and the craft cocktails are between good and mediocre — The negroni (served on tap) is one of the better options.
