The Sun is best known as a cafe, and is busiest in the middle of the day when temple-goers return to town to escape the heat and tuck into burgers and shakes in preparation for an active afternoon. I prefer The Sun in the late afternoon or early evening when I'm looking for a quiet, laid-back spot to sip something cold with a friend. It's a fantastic choice if we don't want anything too fancy. I like to take visitors here, as it's smack-bang in the heart of Siem Reap, on the corner of Pub Street, and one block from Old Market, so there's plenty of people-watching.
A tip: while the wicker chairs outside are tempting, the enormous picture windows provide fantastic views no matter where you sit inside, with the added bonus that you won't be hassled by the kids selling trinkets and the baby-milk scammers. The Sun has a happy hour when you can get discounted wines by the glass, or, even better, good cocktails. The mango daiquiris are some of the best in town.
