The Smokin’ Pug may be located inside an old Chinese shophouse, but the scene is more redolent of San Antonio than Southeast Asia. As vintage Muddy Waters records pump out of the stereo, husband and wife team Danny and Dana Garber serve up generous pours and craft IPAs up to an appreciative crowd huddled into the narrow, rustically decorated space. While drinks and Delta blues enhance the venue’s appeal, it is Texas-style BBQ classics such as baby back ribs, beef brisket and pulled pork – all charcoal smoked with imported hickory and mesquite on the restaurant’s rooftop -- that keeps the venue’s legion of hungry fans begging for more.
