The Sebastian - Vail

Classy Hotel & Residence Club in the Middle of Vail Village
We spent a couple of early-season days at The Sebastian in Vail, a 100-room hotel and residence club in a very central location—walking distance to several main chairlifts and next door to the whole Solaris complex (restaurants, ice skating, bowling, etc.). We were there both for the season's first runs and also to meet Billy Yoga, a Denver-based teacher who runs retreats around the world and was that weekend's featured guest in the hotel’s “Artists, Authors, and Athletes” series. There were talks, yoga, and meditation sessions peppered into our skiing and hot tub time, making for a full and relaxed stay.

For the kids, there is a game room and mini-arcade, plus board games and puzzles you can take up to your room. We were also surprised one day when housekeeping showed up with princess castle tents for the room, which our girls loved.

The Sebastian is also home to Bloom Spa, for apres-ski massages. For food, there are the Frost bar and Leonora restaurant, both serving creative cocktails, hearty tapas, and daily apres ski specials—think fresh melted raclette cheese over potatoes and acorn-finished Iowa ham, carved off the leg right there in the bar.

Rooms start at $395 a night and come in various configurations for families of different sizes. The hotel is dog friendly ($150 flat fee).
