Silversmith Paul Revere was prosperous before he was famous, as evidenced by his fine home in Boston’s North End. Most of this North Square house, built in 1680 and restored to its colonial appearance in the 20th century, is original to the period when Revere lived here with his wife, Sara, and their eight children. House tours begin in an outside courtyard garden and take in the 17th-century kitchen, hall, and upstairs sleeping chambers, with furniture and silver belonging to the Revere family on display. A museum in an adjacent 1835 row house tells the story of Revere’s famous midnight ride and includes a diorama of his silversmith shop.
