Maple in Miniature
On a road trip to Grandma's house (my kids' Grandma, that is) this summer, we stopped for a couple of hours at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville. Having only ever seen bonsai trees in the Karate Kid movies, I was impressed by the trees on display in the bonsai exhibit at the Arboretum. This one is a Japanese maple tree, and it's only about two feet tall. This summer and fall the Arboretum has a temporary exhibit called "Wicked Plants," featuring poisonous, carnivorous, and otherwise dangerous foliage. On our road trip, we only had time to see these two exhibits. I'm looking forward to going back sometime and seeing the what the rest of the Arboretum has to offer.
