The Laguna de Apoyo is located in a nature preserve that sits in a crater's crystal clear lagoon surrounded by a rainforest. The crater is now a sleeping volcano and is some of the clearest, blue fresh waters in Central America. The lagoon is very deep and extremely quite, although you can hear some howling monkeys or tropical birds rustling in the trees.
This place is a must stop if you are driving around visiting volcanoes and small towns outside of Managua and Granada. It is absolutely gorgeous and great place to relax. Although it is also a hostel, we hung out for a few hours to take a swim, suntan on the dock, and go kayaking. There are a few other hostels on the lagoon, however this is supposed to be the best...from a friend's local recommendation.
