A few blocks away from the White House, the 1925 hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has graced the likes of Amelia Earhart, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Winston Churchill, and J. Edgar Hoover as well as hosting Presidential Inaugural balls since the days of Calvin Coolidge. Following a $20 million renovation of its 657 guest rooms and 74 luxury suites, the hotel retains its old-world elegance with original staircases, balconies, and chandeliers while updating the carpet, vinyl, lighting, furniture, and décor, such as the addition of chaise couches, black lacquer doors, and silhouette prints of some of the hotel's most prominent guests and other historic figures. Staying in Room 776? That is where President Franklin Roosevelt stayed and penned the famous phrase "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" for his inaugural speech.
