Much research has indicated that pet ownership has a remarkable array of health benefits, from alleviating symptoms of depression to lowering blood pressure. If your best four-legged friend is back home and you are in search of some of those benefits, a visit to Norwalk’s Maritime Aquarium might do the trick. Exhibits focus largely of the ecology of Long Island Sound and provide opportunities to interact with some of the marine life common in the area, from harbor seals to sea turtles. While meerkats aren’t native to this part of New England, the Aquarium is home to six of them. We don’t have the scientific research to back up this claim, but we are pretty sure that spending some time with meerkats improves the mood of close to 100% of all visitors.
