The Jalousie Plantation

This was our late afternoon view as the sun began its descent to the horizon in St. Lucia. Happily situated on Sugar Beach, sipping cocktail number who-knows-what, and enjoying the Caribbean breeze, we were basking in the amenities of the Hilton property known as the Jalousie Plantation. Many of the luxury properties located in St. Lucia reside high up in the hills, and look out across the water at the Pitons, two former volcanoes that are now a World Heritage site. This property, on the other hand, rests squarely on the water, and offers up its own unique view of the majestic surroundings. The Jalousie Plantation boasts some serious luxury digs, from enormous suites to private villas, all of which are designed with your utmost comfort in mind. There is an array of bars, lounges and restaurants, with the standout dining experience most certainly being the Great Room, one of the premier foodie spots on the island. Renovations were recently done in 2011, so the whole place is sparkling and new, just waiting for you to come and stay for a while.

Stunning topography

I love unique topography. St. Lucia is a volcanic island and is renowned for its pitons, two mountains south of the scenic town of Soufriere. Unfortunately, Jalousie Plantation hotel is the only hotel located in between the two pitons so I imagine you need to either charter a boat to the adjoining dock, or find a way to walk in on the road. The beach itself is okay, but is more memorable for its greenery and the mountains themselves.
