The Heath is one of my favorite nights out in NYC. The cockatil bar and music venue is a part of the McKittrick Hotel (actually a performance space, not a hotel), home of the immersive theater and dance show "Sleep No More." The space loosely has the vibe of a 1920s speakeasy inside a luxury train car, though mostly the vibe is just an awesome cocktail lounge with a stage and dance floor for live music. When I went, the house band--Heathens--got everyone onto the dance floor with a great funky, bluesy, toe-tapping performance.
But perhaps just as awesome as the space is, it earns points for what it isn't. There was no never-ending wait to get in like at many of the city's speakeasy cocktail bars. There is a line but that's just due to the logistics of getting people up the freight elevator. There's plenty of room for sitting at the booths or banquettes. Bartenders are attentive. The space is upstairs, but finding the right entrance on the street is as simple as asking one of the many McKittrick Hotel employees on the block for the correct entrance. I went on a beautiful Saturday night and it was a great night out with no hassles or annoyances. A great time all around!
