Chef Phillip Franklin Lee, formerly of Scratch Bar on La Cienega’s Restaurant Row in Beverly Hills, has defected to the Valley, opening up a new incarnation of Scratch Bar in Encino. He first made waves here with The Gadarene Swine. This gastronomic, vegetable-centric restaurant in Studio City was recently on LA Times critic Jonathan Gold's 101 Best Restaurants list—and it was the only vegan restaurant to receive this honor. Sit at the chef’s counter and graze through roasted garlic and fresh thyme popcorn, fried stuffed olives, and roasted mushrooms with burnt sweet potatoes, while sipping on a prosecco cocktail in a mason jar. Tasting menus of up to 12 courses are available. You can also catch Lee on the season of Top Chef debuting December 2015.
