The Elephant House

21 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EN, UK

Heading off the Royal Mile to find Greyfriar’s Bobby, we passed this cafe that, by its name, I assumed was an Indian restaurant. But a closer look at the bottom of the main window stated that this was where the hero of Hogwarts was created. The cafe was a favorite place of JK Rowling, Potter’s creator. She would often sit in the back of the cafe with a cuppa, looking out the window at the castle, and writing (or typing) away. It is quite nice and worth a visit. The tea is good and cheap! Not only that but Ian Rankin, another popular Scottish writer, also spent lots of time here.
