Boyhood and Bowling
Boyhood, Richard Linklater's multiple Academy Award-nominated film, is a love letter to the director's own Texas boyhood, and was filmed largely in and around Austin, which stands in for various places around the state. The bowling alley where the family hangs out is supposed to be in Houston, but is actually the Dartbowl, in Austin. Another location in Austin that's easily identifiable is the Continental Club (seen here), the granddaddy of Austin music venues whose owner is a friend of Linklater's—and which also starred in Linklater's breakthrough 1989 film, Slacker.
