The Confidante Miami Beach, the Unbound Collection by Hyatt
4041 Collins Avenue
New Territory at The Confidante in Miami BeachMiami is my hometown, and I'd like to think that I know my way around most of the sparkling hotels along the coast, but I was stepping into new ground as I entered the double doors of The Confidante.
I first heard of this mid-century designed property when a couple friends hosted an all-female DJ set during a pool party here a few months prior. As a made my way though the lobby, it absolutely lived up the the hype. The Art Deco architecture pays homage to 1940s Miami Beach and I noticed many sentiments of the city's past as a made way way through the public spaces and up to my room.
My junior suite overlooked the ocean, which was one of my priorities since I was visiting from freezing New York. The room had a comfortable sitting area with a shelf of interesting books to read on my quiet balcony. I planned on having friends over later, so it was the perfect place to entertain a few guests.
We dined at Bird & Bone, the hotel's restaurant and we were blown away. The staff was the most helpful, guiding us through the menu of Southern favorites including spicy fried chicken and crispy roasted brussles sprouts. A favorite were the tiered jars of spreads served with crispy bread and chips to dip into. The cool and creamy balance between bites of spicy battered sweetbread was the perfect comfort food combination.
After dinner we made our way to Nina's House which was exactly what we needed after a filling meal. Nina's is a cozy beach house located near the pool. It's dark, but the blinking retro sinage leads you in the right direction. The bohemian bungalow is actually a home built in the 1930's and decorated with cute surfboards, artwork from local vendors, macrame wall hangings and leather goods. Needless to say, we sipped mixed drinks until late and thankfully our room was nearby.
Finally, we felt refreshed enough the following morning for a 10 a.m. yoga class, which was exactly what we needed to stretch away the Southern meal from the night before. Out by the pool we soaked in the sunshine that greeted us and ordered a pitcher of gin and pink lemonade and sipped as we lounged at the adult-only pool, although there's a family pool not far - providing something for every kind of guest.
The unfamiliarity of The Confidante was pleasant as every corner that we turned left us guessing and surprised. This definitely won't be my last time here.
