A roaring good time
In step with most of my Jacksonville experiences, as I followed directions to the Catty Shack Ranch I was skeptical. Where was I? I think I am in a neighborhood? Oh my, it's a trailer park! But alas, it is not! Once you pass the dingy parking lot with the old school motel sign, you walk through a strange souvenir tent and then find your self within 2 feet of the worlds most beautiful cats. You'd be surprised that these masters of the wild could be living nestled within a neighborhood, bu they do! It is amazing, we went for a night-feeding and at first I was scared because all the lions and tigers were so loud! It was startling since most of the time I visit a zoo, the big cats are lounging and taking a cat nap. These guys are very vocal around dinner time. We followed the tour guide with our fellow visitors who ranged from young children to romantic couples, from each caged section as he told us about the cats and fed them raw meat. The tour guides, go right inside with the food and feed them like they are feeding a pet. It was amazing to see. Most of the cats here are rescues and mostly tigers. It may seem off the beaten path but it is only a short drive from River City and the Airport.
