Why we love it: This stunning Phoenix property blends elegance, whimsy, and tasteful salutes to the Southwest

- north-facing rooms have splendid views of red-rock Camelback Mountain, which inspired the hotel’s name and camel topiary!
The review: The Camby took over the old Ritz-Carlton premises in Phoenix’s upscale Biltmore neighborhood. NYC design firm Stonehill Taylor introduced a new aesthetic of “refined revelry,” remixing the classic hallmarks of luxury with contemporary touches. The team drew inspiration deeply from Arizona’s five “C’s” — cotton, cattle, citrus, climate, and copper. So expect touches like quilted leather banquettes and a metal screen woven with turquoise wire threads, married with sculptural neon lights and interactive touch-screen tables. Don’t miss the cabanas and pool at the Revelry Rooftop Bar, which includes another video art installation, a giant topiary bird, and winter movie nights.
The 277 guest rooms benefit from bold, chic choices like dark blue entryways and deconstructed four-poster beds, crowned by copper Mylar panels. Pink, brown, and orange accents punctuate the white linens, which cleanse the palette for the beauty of the desert and its mountains outside.
Teal walls and ceilings cradle the hotel’s restaurant Artizen, enlivened at every turn by copper and candles. Start with a craft cocktail or a draft pint of its bespoke AZ Lager, maybe paired with dill-and-vinegar chicharrónes or cornbread with smoked pistachio butter and honeycomb. Then move on to highlights like tuna poke, smoked tomato bisque, and street tacos with piquillo-braised short ribs.
