Thanon Rambuttri

Soi Rambuttri, Khwaeng Talat Yot, Khet Phra Nakhon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10200, Thailand

Khao San's More Attractive, Well Behaved Sister

Rambuttri is Khao San's more attractive, well behaved sister. The entire horse-shoe-shaped road takes about 30 minutes to walk along. This street has a great mix of guesthouses, restaurants, bars and street food stalls. Most of the shops are similar to those you find anywhere in the area selling the usual T-shirts, DVDs and other tourist trinkets. The road curves around Wat Chana Songkhram and as you walk along, the golden roof of the temple pops up above a hotel and you can sneak a peek at the monk's quarters down the alleyways.

If you follow the road all the way round you will end up at what looks like a dead end. Never fear, you can cut through the second floor of the restaurant at the end, the waiters are very happy to show you the way. At night colourful paper lanterns light up Rambuttri and the bars come alive – in fact the further you get away from Khao San, the less commercial it feels. A whole section of Rambuttri is now dedicated to street bars once night falls. For a great night out, shopping, eating and partying on Rambuttri, catch The Siam boat to the Pra Athit Pier just 10 minutes away. If you miss the last Siam boat then returning to The Siam is about 5 minutes away by Tuk Tuk or Taxi. Rambuttri is always a great night out.

Soi Rambuttri: A Classier Khao San Road

Skip the 20-something backpacker haven of Khao San Road and check out neighboring Soi Rambuttri instead. A little quieter, less crass, and a lot more charming, this maze-like street has plenty of alleyways to discover and some great street eats to be had. It is centrally located in the Old Town of Bangkok and within walking distance to the Grand Palace, river ferry, and tons of wats.
