Another Kind of Texas Oil
Move over Texas crude: there’s a new oil in town. Just north of Dallas, in Carrizo Springs, lies the Texas Olive Ranch, growing 100% pure Texas Extra Virgin Olive Oil. (The arid climate of this area is extremely similar to that of southern Spain
, where the arbequina variety of olives were developed and cultivated.) Open to visitors by appointment only, the ranch offers tours through the fields, after which you can purchase some of their unique products, like Lemon Olive Oil, Black and White Blackberry-Infused White Balsamic Vinegar, Hill Country Herb Garden Olive Oil, and Rattlesnake Cracked Pepper & Chipotle Chile
Olive Oil. Harvest is in September, and although it is done mechanically, you can schedule a visit to see how the process works, and then leave with a bushel of specialty products to enjoy at home.
