It’s easy to see why the medina in Tétouan was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits in the verdant foothills of the mountainous Er Rif region and its residents carry on a traditional way of life. In addition to the artisan workshops, food markets and tiny mosques, the new town boasts some fine Spanish colonial buildings from the early 20th century, with high-shuttered windows and Art Deco flourishes.
