The Templar

The minimalist aesthetic of the Templar, complete with teak floors, custom-made Poliform wardrobes, Japanese-inspired platform beds, and bathtubs made exclusively for the hotel, has won over design enthusiasts. In its current phase, with a change of ownership, minimalist design has turned to a bare-bones atmosphere, and many features are currently MIA, including the restaurant. If you can live without the extras, then this is a great retreat in the heart of Toronto’s downtown core. In its next phase, to be completed by the end of 2017, the hotel will undergo a full facelift, including adding full amenities like a new restaurant.

Aloof yet Sexy

The Templar Hotel took what seems like FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRR to open. This long-awaited 27-room temple to designer minimalism (a Japanese vibe?) is Toronto's 1st (and so far only) member of the supercool Design Hotel Group.

The location is a little odd (in the Entertainment District—crazy on weekends) yet close enough to all of the city's attractions that any design geek would be remiss not to book here. Just don't expect warm and fuzzy, it's not that kind of place.

P.S. There was supposedly a Porsche available for guest transport, however authorities have it that it's MIA at the moment.
