Teepee Motel & RV Park
Road Trip Retro
Both Academy Award-winning playwright Horton Foote and revered newscaster Dan Rather hail from Wharton—a charming town in Texas’ cotton growing tidewater, 60 miles southwest of Houston. It is also home to the retro Teepee Motel, a tribute to the epoch of grand family driving trips and travelers’ enthusiasm for seeing the nation by car. Built in 1942, Teepee Motel, with its neon sign, was a popular stop for road trippers until the highway system bypassed it, making it obsolete. For years, it sat abandoned—until 2004,. Today, enjoy a stay in a traditional teepee room, adorned with Native American-inspired decor. Alternatively, the motel has an adjacent park with RV hook ups, BBQ pits, and a bath house.
