Tea House at Emerson Spice
There are few finer ways to spend the evening than under the intricately carved wooden latticework on the rooftop of the Emerson Spice hotel. This 19th-century town house, once home to the last Swahili ruler of Zanzibar, is located in Stone Town's casbah. The Tea House serves a nightly five-course meal made from fresh local ingredients. Diners are encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m. to enjoy cocktails during the best of the sunset, and to hear the calls to prayer echoing over the rooftops from the mosques all the way to the ocean. Closed Thursdays.
