Throughout the country, kids can experience what it’s like growing up in New Zealand. Start with learning to fish in the picturesque Bay of Islands. Families can join one of the many charters or hire a rod from a store in Russell and fish off the end of the wharf like the locals do. Next up: surfing. All New Zealand’s major surf beaches have lessons available, and it’s a great way for kids to get more comfortable in the ocean. To see some hidden country, horseback riding is your best mode of transport. Equipped with safety helmets and professional guides, you can ride for at least an hour and trot across Pakiri Beach, 45 minutes north of Auckland.
