Tauranga Tauranga New Zealand

Tauranga, the Bay of Plenty’s largest city, is famous for its world-class beaches as well as an extinct volcanic cone, the dramatic 232-meter-high (760-foot-high) Mount Maunganui that stands at the entrance to the harbor. A revered site for the Maori, to whom it was known as Mauao ("caught by the dawn"), the peak is popular with hang gliders and paragliders, who ride thermals around it. Down below, fishing boats come in and out of the fine natural harbor.
