Taste of Zen
Constructed in the Chinese imperial style, the International Buddhist Temple welcomes all visitors, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Stop by this splendid edifice, also known as the Guan Yin Temple, which opened in 1983. Its Richmond complex—13 miles south of downtown Vancouver—includes a meat-free restaurant, blending western cuisine with Asian classics and, often, vegetables grown right on the grounds. The eatery offers stuffed eggplant, a flaky taro pastry with wild mushrooms, and fried spring rolls stuffed with banana and durian, among other delicacies. Taste of Zen accepts donations for its efforts, asking for a minimum of $18 per person. Open daily 11:30am to 3pm. (buddhisttemple.ca)
