The Tangkoko Nature Reserve lies at the tip of North Sulawesi, and protects a plethora of truly unique wildlife, including the Sulawesi Crested Macaque. Waking in the darkness, you enter the reserve and walk into the forest as the sun rises, searching for the trees in which the local troop has spent the night. As the sun begins to throw its soft light through the forest canopy, the primates slowly descend to the forest floor. The youngsters eye you curiously as they rough and tumble with each other, whilst the adults make their morning rituals, greeting and grooming. It is maybe an hour, spent relaxing and enjoying the antics of these amazing animals, before they move off into the forest to feed, and we return excited and satisfied to our cottages for breakfast.
