Tanaka Isson Memorial Art Museum

Tanaka Isson Memorial Art Museum is located in Amami Park, which opened in 2001 on the grounds of Amami's former airport. Dedicated to Tanaka Isson, the pseudonym of Tanaka Jun, a Japanese nihonga painter who lived on the island later in his life, the museum displays his paintings of local flora and fauna, especially birds. There are also temporary exhibitions from other local artists, a folk museum showcasing local history and culture and a free observation deck overlooking the surrounding area.
