Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula has numerous Maya sites—so many, in fact, that no one agrees upon a precise number (and there are more to be rediscovered). There's the one nearly everyone knows—Chichén Itzá—and then there are sites that are smaller in scale and grandeur, but entirely fascinating in their own right. Kohunlich is one of them. Be sure to explore its Temple of the Masks, a pyramid flanked by large masks made of stucco.
