Swiss Ornithological Institute
The sharp angular lines and contemporary style of this bird center and natural-history museum built in 2015 by Mlzd (a Biel-based architecture cooperative) is worth seeing solely for its compact polygon design, a sustainable structure made of untreated timber and rammed earth. Its kid-friendly and English-speaking exhibits and natural boardwalk trails built seamlessly into the grasses along the banks of Lake Sempach encompass the habitat of native birds like tits, woodpeckers, wrens, and robins and remain the real draw, even for those not interested in birds.
