Think you can't find real, authentic Jamaican Jerk in Kingston? Think you have to visit Boston's Beach on Jamaica's northeast coast, or Scotchie's in Montego Bay for a real taste of Jamaica's signature spicy cuisine? Think again!
The minute I stepped out of my cab at The Courtleigh Hotel a few months ago, after a short drive from Norman Manley International Airport, the familiar, savory aroma had me under its spell.
After a quick check-in process and dropping my bags in my room, I was back outside the hotel, following my nose across the street. Just a few feet away on Park Boulevard, bordering the northern edge of Emancipation Park, I found it... Sweetwood Jerk Joint, aka: heaven!
You can enjoy all manner of Jerk favorites here – chicken, pork, sausage, lamb, even roast fish! Sides consist of a celebration of the real Jamaica, with sweet potato, rice and peas, breadfruit, and festivals all marrying marvelously with the Jerk spice.
Definitely do not miss this place whenever you're in Kingston.
