Sureño

Building 1 No 11 Sanlitun Road Chaoyang, Sanlitun Road, 北京市 China, 100027

Within sleek boutique hotel Opposite House is this Mediterranean restaurant, a favorite for brunch and drinks al fresco. With a wall of windows looking into the courtyard, Sureño is bright and airy. Diners at the communal wooden tables are a mix of expats and locals. The restaurant has been a Beijing mainstay since 2009 and, in early 2017, underwent a revamp, trimming down its menu. Lunch is a good bet here, with three courses for roughly $32, and it’s less crowded than weekend brunch. On the menu are dishes from Israel (a stuffed chicken thigh with falafel, raw broccoli, peas, and a truffled broccoli sauce), Italy (smoked carrot agnolotti (pasta) filled with Parma ham, cream sauce, sage, and garlic), and Spain (squid, with Manchego, celery, braised endive, barley, and a garlic leek sauce and brown butter).
