Bargain Hunt: Thieves Market on Sungei Road
The sellers in Singapore's oldest flea market may not be offering anything you want, but it's still interesting to stroll this elbow-shaped lane and peruse the old cassette tapes, secondhand clothes and electronics on display. Not least because it's so different from the air-conditioned mega-malls where Singaporeans do most of their shopping these days. Construction on nearby roads has caused the market to contract somewhat in recent years but it has managed to survive several rounds of government clean-ups and always seems to resurface after attempted redevelopments of the area.
