I had the gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain on my radar for our trip to Banff, but we were iffy about the price: $34 per person. Would it be worth it? Our dilemma was solved when we found out that in the winter if you hike up to the top you can ride down for free!
The cafe at the top of Sulphur Mountain has great views, and we got chili and hot chocolate, which hit the spot after our cold hike. The trail is 5.5 kilometers (3.4 miles) total. It was well marked, including a sign after each kilometer to track our progress as we neared the top. It took 5 minutes to drive to Sulphur Mountain from downtown Banff.
