The beloved Central Coast institution that is Sullivan Goss changed ownership in 2017, with longtime gallery employee Nathan Vonk taking the reins from Frank Goss and Patricia Sullivan Goss, the original co-founders who brought the gallery to Santa Barbara in 1994.

Goss and Sullivan Goss built their gallery on American art, devoting their time and knowledge to growing the work and reputations of California artists. Carefully curated to include everything from plein-air landscapes to hard-edge abstraction, the shows at Sullivan Goss throughout the years have educated, inspired and bonded a generation of artists and collectors. Over the years, Sullivan Goss has also published dozens of books, including first-ever monograph on Ray Strong in 2015 entitled Ray Strong: American Artist.

Vonk has already matched his stride with the former owners, seeking to acquire works by significant American painters and sculptors, specifically those who worked between 1850 and 1950 all the while introducing more contemporary and modern art, like the murals of David Flores.
