Sukhothai Historical Park
At this park remain ruins from a former capital dating to the 13th and 14th centuries. As you explore the grounds, you’ll come upon the royal palace and more than 20 temples still in excellent, awe-inspiring condition. I recommend renting a bike and touring the sites on your own. And while the name Sukhothai literally means “Dawn of Happiness,” I say visit during sunset instead when it’s cooler and the light is prime for taking photos. While in this area, I also tried my hand at ceramics at Usa Sangkhalok, using techniques of the ancient Thais.
