What’s not to like about a sweets shop called “Sugar Sugar Candy” ? This little spot is artfully and whimsically decorated: The 45 rpm “Sugar, Sugar” by the Archies is framed in a shadowbox on one wall while antique Parisian chocolate boxes adorn another. Seasonally inspired décor changes frequently. Sometimes you’ll find colorful cupcake wrapper garlands or candy ribbon wreaths and candy-gram inspired tablescapes. For Valentine’s Day, don’t expect mainstream options here. Think retro classics such as packages of Blackjack and Clove gum, Atomic Fireballs, and licorice twirls (the shop has best licorice selection in the TC) in addition to artisanal and imported chocolate. Shelves are lined with glass jars enticingly filled with every type of “sugar” too, including orange slices, root beer barrels, organic gummy bears, and candy rings. Owner and candy aficionado Joni Wheeler stocks it all and then some. Edward Hopper would find much to paint here.
