While sailing the Tyrrhenian Sea around Stromboli, you'll pass a curious, sparse outcropping with a lighthouse on top and a steep, treacherous staircase zigzagging up the sheer cliff. That's Strombolicchio (or Little Stromboli), a sea stack that was formed by the same volcanic hotspot that still flows from its bigger sister. Despite its barren appearance, Strombolicchio is a nature preserve and home to endangered plants and lizards.
