In Mexico, the much beloved VW Beetle is called a "vocho," and there are still a lot of them on the streets of San Miguel. Mexico had the last factory producing them, in the city of Puebla, which didn't close untill 2003. On July 30th of that year, the final Mexican "vocho" rolled off the assembly line. It was immediately shipped to a Volkswagen Museum in Germany. You'll see a lot of classic VW Beetles as you wander around San Miguel de Allende--some as shiny and well cared for as the day they left the plant, others more like this one, patched and pinned together, but still running and still loved.
