Stilt Fishermen in Sri Lanka
Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to Sri Lanka, and it's an incredible skill to witness in person before it dies off. Because many fishermen earn more from photo opps than from actual stilt fishing, the tradition is slowly dying and is worth experiencing in person. There are several locations to spot the fishermen in action along the south coast of Sri Lanka including Ahangama, Weligama and Koggala. Expect to pay a small fee - if you visit at sunset it is not uncommon to see a dozen or so Sri Lankan fishermen holding their rods, patiently waiting for a catch.
