The Essence of Croatia - Two out of Three...

...the three being: sea, wine and architecture. On Hvar, you’ll get all of them, but sometimes you just may want to get away from packed summer cafes and restaurants. Hvar is one of the most popular Croatian islands, for good reasons: its beautiful architecture, natural beauty and proximity to Split make for a lovely visit. And yet, mega-yachts and a multitude of hip bars in the town of Hvar where you will most likely first land - and where most visitors spend their time - can take away from what makes Croatia so unique. For a true Adriatic experience, head to other towns on the island: not only are Sucuraj, Jelsa, and truly gorgeous Stari Grad far less commercialized, but a ride there will provide for views like this. The local bus is a perfectly fine option: inexpensive, timely and safer than rental cars (the major safety feature being safe staring through the windows...so much is missed when one has to focus on driving on curvy roads!). There are not many places in the world where you will see the very grapevines that provide for your dinner glass next to such warm, friendly seas. Enjoy!

Hvar

After a few days of frolicking in the beaches of Makrska rivijera, enjoying the nightlife and blending in with the locals, we hired a gulet and went for a cruise around the island of Hvar. Our timing was perfect-sunset sailing is the in-thing in Hvar. Feeling the wind in our hair was mesmerizing, but the scene itself was enough to knock us off our yacht. The waters, a deep blue and smooth, complemented the azure sky that went into a tint of yellow as the sun went down. It was a perfect trip. Nothing beats the serenity of the Hvar coast. The food is great, the service is amazing and, oh, you can smoke freely inside most.
